Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) is committed to making air
travel welcoming and accessible for everyone. We recognize that many travelers have disabilities or conditions that may not be immediately visible, yet can
still impact their travel experience.
CIRA is proud to participate in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
Program, an internationally recognized initiative that allows individuals to discreetly signal that they may need extra time, patience, or assistance while
traveling. By wearing a Sunflower lanyard, passengers can self-identify without needing to disclose personal or medical information.
Airport staff are trained to recognize the Sunflower symbol and
understand that the person wearing it may benefit from additional support during their time at the airport.
How the Program Works
- Sunflower lanyards are available upon request through participating airlines.
- There are no prerequisites or documentation required to receive a lanyard.
- Passengers who require specific disability services should still arrange assistance directly with their airline in advance of travel.
Hidden disabilities can include, but are not limited to, autism, anxiety disorders, epilepsy, learning disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other non-visible conditions or chronic illnesses.
CIRA is dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and comfortable environment for all travelers. If you have questions, feedback, or suggestions on how we can continue to improve accessibility at the airport, we welcome your input and encourage you to contact us.
