CIRA proudly showcases a collection of artwork created by artists from across Central Illinois. As a gateway to the region, the airport offers travelers a glimpse into the culture, history, and creativity that define our community.

From vibrant banners above the ticketing and baggage claim areas to the iconic horses suspended above the escalators in the gate area, art can be found throughout the terminal building, and outside. Whether you’re arriving or departing, we invite you to take a moment to enjoy these unique works on your next trip through CIRA.

History at the Airport

Suspended above the waiting area on the east side of the security checkpoint is the Tilbury Flash, a rare racing aircraft dating back to the 1930s. The Flash is a remarkable survivor from a thrilling era in American aviation history.

In its early competitions, the aircraft was piloted by Art Carnahan, who later became the first manager of what is now Central Illinois Regional Airport. Installed at CIRA in 2015, the Tilbury Flash is on loan from the McLean County Museum of History and serves as a lasting tribute to the region’s aviation legacy.
